Food security, natural resource scarcity and climate change are among the most pressing issues of our time; we cannot just leave them for future generations to deal with.
In just 13 years, the world will have to feed another billion mouths at the same time we are seeing alarming global trends in biodiversity losses, deforestation and climate change. By 2030, the world is expected to need at least 50% more food, 45% more energy and 30% more water. So in order to feed the world we will have to increase productivity but many of the world’s current systems of food production are simply unsustainable. They not only contribute to climate change but also put pressure on other natural resources such as fresh water. The challenge is to ensure that the planet produces enough food for all in a sustainable way. This also presents an opportunity to produce more with less, innovate with new green technology and create jobs in an expanding industry.
