Virgin Money Giving passes £100m mark

Virgin Money Giving, the not-for-profit online fundraising website, has surpassed the £100 million barrier in donations – just two and a half years after its launch.

Since being set up in 2009, coinciding with Virgin Money’s sponsorship of the London Marathon, over 2.5 million donations have been received through the website, with over 4,000 charities benefitting as a result. In addition the Gift Aid uptake has been an impressive 85.5%.

“Helping charities to raise £100million is a great achievement, but more important is the way we have helped to increase online giving overall. Research has shown that online giving is the most efficient way of fundraising for charities, donors and fundraisers,” explained Virgin Money Giving Chairman, Sir Tom Shebbeare.

“It is fantastic to see so many different challenges being undertaken by fundraisers on the site and to see so many people keen to raise money for charity.”

Unlike fellow donation websites, such as JustGiving, Virgin Money Giving charges less, and passes Gift Aid on in full – meaning an extra £3.4 million has been raised for charity since its inception.
