Earthquake in Sikkim: High level disaster meeting is underway | |

A high-level disaster management meeting chaired by Union Cabinet Secretary is underway in the national capital on Monday.
The meeting is called after massive earthquake rocked north India on Sunday evening, killed 23 people while over 100 are sadi to be injured.
Home secretary, Secretary Border Management and defence secretary are present in the crisis management group meeting to chalk out the relief work in the most-affected Sikkim and West Bengal’s Siliguri district.
Meanwhile, incessant rain and landslides has been hampering the relief work. Teams of National Disaster Relief Force personnel are reported to be stuck in Siliguri due to road block.
Sikkim government has said that the 6.8 magnitude quake has badly hit the North Sikkim.
Sikkim government said that roads are blocked due to landslide, causing delay in rescue operations. Even relief choppers are also grounded due to thick fog in the area.
The 6.8 magnitude tremblor caused extensive damage to buildings and roads in Sikkim and several other places.
In Gangtok, power was restored this morning after residents spent the night outside their houses fearing aftershocks. Around 20 aftershocks throughout the night had created panic in the city.
